Oh, a ferocious daschund. I'm intrigued.

Hello, preciouses. How was everyone's Christmas? Hmm? Well, that's good.
Ours went well. Saw most of the family on either side. And a schmaltzy slide show on my dad's side. Some cute photos of him and his siblings doing kid stuff. However, at other times it looked like picnic with the mob.
Ah, well...
Few if any of my generation on that side look like hitmen.
On the other side, it was bring your dog to lunch day. Jeff and Kathryn brought their two boxers, and David's new daschund puppy was one center of attention. If you weren't busy watching football, that is. She's so cuuuuuuute! *cute puppy face* But she still has those sharp puppy teeth. Ow.
Pookie has been loving the cold weather. Either that, or she hates having to climb the stairs with the ice on them so she elects to stay put on the ground. Lucille, on the other hand...
She's fat and furry enough to shrug off the elements, but nooooo. Always waiting to come back inside where it's nice and warm.
Now we wait for the roads to clear off enough to hit the stores to blow all of our money. Also my dad's taken my car to get something else fixed. *sigh*
Stupid car.

This is probably a sign from God that you're not supposed to do that...

*giggling in Heather's direction*
A bit of advice. If anyone tells you that they're going to be cleaning the Warehouse, stay away. Far, far away. The fumes from the industrial cleaning fluids (smeared over the floor at least twice) are enough to make you either high or sick with one whiff.
Most unusual weather for J-Town yesterday. I mean, frozen precipitation on the second day of winter? What's up with that? It's usually pretty fall-ish until mid-January at least. Whatever.
Also, skidding, even for just a very brief period of time, is no fun.
Merry Christmtas to everyone out there! Remember your pets and those less fortunate than you while you're enjoying the festivities with your friends and family!

It IS possible to raise a sunken vessel with ping-pong balls!

I have ventured into the ghetto and returned fully intact. Which is more than any of the other GWC-ers can say.
Wrapping up school this week. Not the semester, mind you, but while my lovelywonderful comrades at USJ are sweating out exams, I will be distributing "Merry Christmas" -es throughout my domain.
No exams for me!!! Perks of being in the public school system. Actually, I stand a chance of only having one exam all year, and that's for an AP course. Whee.
I've finished shopping for my mom and one Secret Santa, and I plan on doing most of the rest of my holiday purchasing tomorrow and Tuesday.
I look forward to seeing everyone in the near future. Also, it seems I am Everest.

I am Mount Everest!

Mrs. Hardin says she's taking the AP class to hell.

Happybouncylaughingness!
Which, translated into standard English, means I'm terribly excited over the fact that my debit card thingy came in, therefore I have something with which to purchase Christmas gifts. Also I've had some sort of stimulant that's making me hyper. Aaahh! The devil!
Running downstairs to the front of the auditorium after singing a rather long-winded song in the balcony isn't a good idea, especially since we're supposed to start singing, like, right when we get down there. Now, I don't know about Carmen and Melody and Dustin, but Sarah and I were still trying to breathe correctly halfway through that one. Most of the time we just moved our mouths and took in air to keep from passing out. Things were getting kinda spinny there for a while...
Also Luke set fire to something while trying to fix the spotlight. It smelled like burnt marshmallows.
But yeah, I've got almost an A in English, not counting the 10+ points that'll be added to my research paper. (That's a good thing, in case you haven't figure it out yet.) Uhh...also we're making literary Christmas tree ornaments later this week. More points!!
So I'm gonna go smile about my amazing good luck and do some homework. That's not so fun, but there isn't too much tonight. Yay.

...they all speak in unison...

Busy, busy me! In addition to all of the usual things I do throughout the week, I am or have been or will be involved in some sort of extracurricular thingy for several days.
Wednesday: showed up for a CyHigh meeting that got cancelled because I was the only one there. Then Warehouse.
Thursday: national anthem (la la la...) at the basketball game.
Friday: festive holiday performance with one ensemble for Kevin's mother's company. Three Way. Never drive there.
Yesterday: All State auditions in Memphis. Women's chorale, second alternate.
Today: different ensemble singing at Lambuth Memorial United Methodist. Had communion and everything, too...
Tomorrow: Christmas concert rehearsal.
Tuesday: rehearsal again.
Wednesday: make up last week's CyHigh meeting.
Thursday: Christmas concert.
Sunday: sing at another church. I think it's a predominantly black congregation. Should be another interesting experience.
Fortunately I'm much better than I was a week ago. My nose isn't threatening to cecede anymore.

It seems our little brother's growing a mustache.

*cough*
Let's get through this without crashing...
When you are on your way to your grandparents' house for Thanksgiving, the last thing you're expecting is to be chased by either a drunk or a terrible, terrible driver. Really really fast. Because that's what happened to me and my sister. We were minding our own business when this crazy guy gets right up behind us. I happened to notice that he had swerved into the left lane more than once and was waiting until the very last second to brake whilst driving much too fast for comfort.
I know, because I was speeding very badly to get away from this loonie, but guess what? HE KEPT CATCHING UP WITH US!!!
I was horrified.
Today was much less eventful. I woke up, bummed around the house, took some medicine for whatever lovely fall/winter ailment has commandeered my upper respiratory system, got gas (I've led a very sheltered life as far as gas stations go), and set up a checking account (whee).
Which completely took it out of me, so I've been asleep since right after lunch.
Now I'm just waiting 'til that previous medicine has worn off so I can try some other drug. If I seem high to you during the next week or so, I probably am. :)

That's why parachutes aren't made of wood.

Amazingly, I have escaped being sick, as I foolishly went to the football game Friday night in the rather damp, less-than-warm weather without much protection from the elements.
Also, two of the three tests that were scheduled for tomorrow have been postponed. Thus, I shall not end the day drooling and convulsing. Maybe just a little bit of twitching and insane laughter after Calculus.
Best Buy apparently isn't interested in employing me during the holiday season, so I went to pick up an application at Cajun Cookers. Yes, I realize this is a food job, but I know the people that own the building and some of the other employees. And Mom says she's okay with me keeping the job as long as I want, so long as my schoolwork keeps up.
No problem...
I think.
So that's the update of the day. Don't expect one anytime soon, as you might be disappointed. But do check back at some point, I may have an amusing holiday anecdote.
And remember, celebrate Thanksgiving BEFORE you put up your Christmas tree.

Squiggly.

First off, click the link once you've read as much as you want.
Two, anyone wanna go see Finding Neverland this weekend? I've called dibs on the review.
Next, yes, I realize that I was in the paper this morning. I did, after all, give them a quote.
Sixth and lastly ... um ...
Can't wait 'til Thanksgiving break.

Tuesday, November 16, 2004

Goodbye, goodnight.

Stuff and things and stuff. The driving forces behind my life since Wednesday-ish have been car trouble and waiting to hear from Best Buy. Friday night I found out that I had no brake pads, so Saturday and Sunday were spent either in my mom's car or off the road. Very boring, but I did manage to sort my novelty socks from my regular socks. Also some work with my watercolors and an afghan. Anyhoo, my brakes were replaced and my radiator was ... I don't know, they did something to it ... Monday. And then this morning there was what we believed to be smoke coming from under the hood. So I call and tell Mom that it's doing so. It turned out to be steam. But that meant that something else had to be replaced. So it was.
Craziness.
And I finally called Best Buy, got my name and number out, and am ever so patiently awaiting a return call.
Also it is getting close to Thanksgiving and the official Christmas shopping season. Yay capitalism.
So I'm off to finish my homework. Yay rah.

Mmmmm...pi!

Bow before the queen of the uber-nerds! I may have been defeated in my bid for president of the Spanish club (actually, nearly all reasonably acceptable candidates were), but I have managed to capture that position in Mu Alpha Theta. We celebrate Pi Day with style. We work next-to-impossible math problems. We voluntarily take a test in the dead middle of winter. Whee.

Peter Pan Syndrome

Whee! I am now 18. To that effect, I have full rights as a citizen of the United States - I can vote, smoke, see R-rated movies, sign my own report cards, and go to the local mall without my mommy's supervision. Also, I can get a job and not be restricted by child labor laws, and be convicted as an adult for any felonies I may or may not commit.
So yeah, being an adult is cool, especially since I still feel like a minor ... just have to watch out for cops.
And practically the first thing I did was apply for a seasonal job at Best Buy. I went through a bit of pain for that one, too. My sister wouldn't give up the chair to the computer, so I had to either kneel or stoop or squat in front of the thing while filling out a 20 page personality assessment and who knows how much other information.
It'll be weird if I get that job. I mean...money? Work? What are these?
And another sign that I have finally hit adulthood - my grandmother got me a pair of jeans and I liked them. Remember when you were a little kid and you'd get clothes for Christmas? Yeah, grown-ups like that kind of stuff. But I'd still take cash any day.
If any more revelations arise, I'll be sure to jot them down.
But now it's calculus time. Unless it's Macbeth time.

Friday, November 05, 2004

Hello, fluffy.

Whee. In two days I'll be able to get into R rated movies, sign my own name on my report cards, and order things from the home shopping channel. Only that requires money. So whatever.
Seventeen has been a pretty good year, all things considered.
Mom's making strawberry cupcakes tomorrow night (yummmm). And hopefully I'll see most of everyone at lunch tomorrow. :)
Kinda tired now. So I leave.

I was right! The devil DOES live here!

Ah, football. Last night's game against JCS was really pathetic despite the noise made in the stands. All of J-town seemed to be there. Seriously, I saw a bunch of people from Madison at the stadium. Also Drew was there. And that's a miracle in and of itself.
And we will all be sad if he goes to Memphis.
Don't go to Memphis, at least not before I go to college. :(
But yeah, the final score was USJ 6, JCS 0.
BUT the fireworks show afterward was pretty cool. I might want to change my minor to pyrotechnics. :D
Today I'm finishing up my tiger costume for Heather's party, going to said party, and if I have any time whatsoever between finishing the first and beginning the other, homework. Blah. Definitions.
So off go I.

...YO' FACE!!!

Quick post before I wander into my literature book and then to CyHigh.
Two nights ago there was a string of storms that managed to hit just about every county in West Tennessee...except ours.
So yesterday, what do we do? We have some more that pass directly over J-Town, that's what.
So I'm at home with my mom and two brothers (Emily was at school, Squirt was at daycare, Dad was in Selmer...) and the alarm and sirens and news alert thingies go off.
And I'm like, "I'm not gonna get Emily." Smart me :)
So I'm keeping an eye on the TV, listening to Gary Perkins getting choked up about the good job the school system did with the elementary school lockdown and the bus driver who saved the little kids, and refreshing the radar on the computer every few minutes. Pookie was in the sunroom howling. It's kinda funny. She has to throw her head over her shoulder at an unnatural angle to do this...
We don't love them enough to bring them into the safest part of the house, especially since they'd start a fight or eat Michael >:)
Well, the tornado warning gets extended (woo hoo) until 4:30, so I'm like "I'm still not gonna get Emily." But I did get my phone and have Mom call Dad and tell him not to drive through the tornadoes. Smart me :)
And apparently some of the sirens weren't going off at first. Mom was like, "Isn't Drew's dad in charge of that?" I didn't know. But he is. They called him on the news and we heard the school bus story again.
But anyhoo, eventually it clears up enough for me to drive through the partially flooded streets and retrieve Emily from the school where everyone was camped out in the weight room and the downstairs Spanish room. Sassy Song was apparently being stupid and trying to take a picture of the storm. Sassy's such a freshman!
And everything was more or less okay after that. *curtsey*

Friday, October 15, 2004

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Happy Friday! I've had a lovely and wonderful day! Whee!
I got a picture and a card from Miki :)
and an e-mail from our long-lost Canadian friend Lauren :D
...two, actually...
Anyhoo, woo and yay and I've still got to finish typing the research paper, which I should get a B on, possibly an A if I make sure my grammar and the content are excellent.
Lucille has started her exercise regiment, and now she thinks I'm the best person in the world, as I can't get anyone else to walk her :P
But aaaaaaaanyway, I must go work on English stuff, eat, yadda yadda...

Twelve-ounce Pound Cake

Last night went exceedingly well. We got all the equipment set up and a little practice time before people started showing up. It was a pretty good crowd, especially for a smaller church. After we were done with our first set, the speaker (*coughcoughTimmy*) did his thing. Malachi. Not one of your more commonly visited sections of the Bible. Then we got up, did one slow song, and then let ourselves go with our loudest, fastest, most hyperactive pieces. We felt loved. Some of the girls wanted to take us to their host home for their Bible study and FOOD. But we had to pack up and get everything back to the Warehouse. After all, it was getting close to 10:30 and we had to sing this morning.
So I'm on a natural high right about now. Hehehe...
Later!

Also, I'll be 18 in four weeks! Woo hoo!

Saturday, October 09, 2004

Have some popcorn. It's not green.

Well, for the past couple of weeks I haven't had much of a life outside of my English research paper, but it's fall break and my rough draft is turned in, so I can't very well do anything about it now. So it's time to chill out. Somewhat.
I took the dogs to the vet for their vaccinations. Lucille is officially a fat girl and needs to lose weight, so I guess I'll be taking her on more walks and crap. Pookie's fine except for some slightly funky teeth, so we're just gonna send both of the dogs in for cleanings sometime soon.
Started applying to colleges (whee). I may have already mentioned that, but I'll say it again anyway.
And I'll be doing a diary for CyHigh about the whole "I-wanna-go-to-college" process. Installments will begin soon.
I would like to see Ladder 49 before I go back to school.
Ooh! I got word earlier this week that the band is playing at Heather's church tonight. No Jordan this time, so I'll be singing all by myself. Which is fine on most of the songs, but I generally prefer to do harmony/backups/not lead.
And that's all I have for now. As my brain cells reboot I may post again.

A few minutes later
I almost forgot. The weirdest thing happened while we were taking our calculus test yesterday. We were writing along, thinking nasty things in Mr. Scott's direction for making some of the problems really horrible, when we heard this tapping on one of the back windows. Everyone ignored it at first, but it happened again. So we all look around and there is a huge crow on the windowsill pecking and flapping against the window. That couldn't be a good omen. Either that or he knew that Danny had brought cookies and muffins (they were really good, too). Lesson learned: bad omens can be bribed to go away with pastry. I wanted to let the bird in. He looked like a fairly intelligent creature. I would have named him Aloysius. Long story.

Up, up, and away!

All northwest results are in:
Sarah got third chair, I got sixth, Janell seventh.
Upset of the year: Jessica beat Libba by five places.
Congrats to the Beal sisters for placing back to back, and to Sarah Newman and Beau Sage for making the choir in their first (and only) year to audition, also thumbs up to Caroline Dale for placing well - she should be a major force in the years to come.
Good job to all of the people selected for the choir, and to everyone who could have made it but screwed up or got bumped off by someone a little better, better luck next year. Unless it's your senior year, and in that case, bummer.
And away I go.

Saturday, October 02, 2004

Yay! Fall break is next weekend...I think...

Hello all who read this. Updateness:
I completed 33 notecards and 8 bibliography cards for my research paper. We were supposed to have 50, but I didn't have that many available, plus I try to go for quality over quantity...so whatever. The lowest grade we can get on this is 67. So I'm not going to look at anything by or about Shakespeare for the rest of the weekend.
Senior pics came in. (Yay) And I have plenty of wallets for everyone.
Sixth and lastly, All Northwest auditions (for choir, that is) are today. Mine was scheduled for 1:45, but everyone was running late (some more than others *coughsopranos*). Mapquest lies. Never use it. It almost got me lost. Grr. Fortunately I'm a fairly bright individual, so I found my way to the site without too much trouble. And I think I did well. Possibly top 5? *crosses fingers* I'll probably hear/read something about it tonight or tomorrow. Good luck to Adri and Sarah and all of the other people that I like that are trying out.

Recovering from a sugar-induced coma.

Seriously. We had cookies and brownies and ice cream ... and more cookies ... Monday? I believe so... Then I came home and passed out, instantly screwing up my routine for the rest of the week.
Besides that, I've been reading and taking notes on attitudes about the role of women in Elizabethan England and a selection of Shakespeare's comedies. Yeah, still have to read As You Like It and the Cliff's Notes tonight. Blah. Thus the lack of updates. I go. I study. Eww...

The trouble with senior research papers

Running about in tiny circles trying to figure out exactly what my paper will be about - I know it WILL use As You Like It as the main source, and that the women in the play will be an integral part of the theme, but what, exactly, will that theme be? Friendship between Rosalynde and Celia? Gender bending in Shakespeare's plays? I don't know, and it's giving me a mild headache.
Arrg.

18 years minus 45 days

Not a lot happened today. Received a lovely card from Miki, turned in my essay, watched part of Lost, and took a nap that I'd been needing since this morning. THE CAFFEINE ISN'T WORKING!!
Calculus test and economics quiz in the morning. Whee.
And prewriting junk is going on for the research papers. It's looking like I'll be writing on Shakespeare's female characters in As You Like It and perhaps one other play. Or I could do something about the extensive role reversals in As You Like It. Terribly entertaining, of course. Something about cross dressing and lesbians? I'm going to sit by you, but not because I'm a lesbian... 'K, I'll go away now and do...something.

Sunday, September 19, 2004

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Heh, I was tired at 9. That's really funny. Really.
'K, we met up at the Warehouse, made nice little folders with the music, drove to the fairgrounds, set up and voila! Sing!
I think it went well enough. Not perfect, but not bad.
And then to the rides. With Jenn and Drew. Because they both came. :)
Thank you, Jenn and Drew, for supporting my vocal habit.
But yeah...I am quite tired, and I wish to go to bed now.
Byebye.

Breathe...

'K, so it's a little over two hours before we start loading the drums and keyboard into Zac's truck, and I've just finished retyping seven of our songs. Oy, it's like cramming for a test, I tell ya! We were sitting in the sanctuary after the service trying to take down some last-minute notes on the intros for some of the songs.
I'll bet too much of this could give one of us an ulcer. So...
I'm gonna go change clothes, eat something and then we're off! Update later...maybe...if I finish my economics homework.

Rantingness

"Arrg!" says the pirate.
But why is the pirate so angry?
Well, for one thing, the pirate is a part of a band that can't get its act together. Namely the guitar player and the "lead" singer. So? The band is supposed to perform tomorrow night, but two practices have been cancelled this week, and when they actually do have practice, the guitar and lead spend a lot of time mucking around. Arrg.
The other thing is that the pirate's freshman sister is dating a sophomore womanizer, and said womanizer showed up at the pirate's house while everyone but the sister was gone. Arrg.
So this pirate is going to go do homework. Hopefully all feelings of displeasure will be transferred to calculus or English or economics. And then the pirate can go eat dinner at a friend's house (no, not yours, another friend's).
Ta ta.

No one, I think, is in my tree.

I can't figure Mrs. Hardin out. Yesterday she was on a lecture rampage about how an honors class should know how to behave, and first block indicated that she would continue the rant today, but no! It was as close to "happy fun time" as working on a study guide can be. There was laughter during the last ten minutes or so. I was confused.
Aaaaaaaaand...Calculus. I did better than I thought on the test. 91. Whee. But I seem to have worked myself into a mathematical stalemate on a couple of problems on the corrections sheet. It makes my brain hurt. Ow.
So I'm gonna go to sleep.

Tuesday, September 14, 2004

...You taste like popcorn!

We have pancakes on Tuesdays.
Not really, I actually had waffles, but they're like deformed pancakes, right?
Aaaaaaanyways, I got ALL of the pictures I needed for my English project and spent Sunday night in an epic battle with a printer and a bottle of Elmer's glue (only to get a B *sniff*). And Drew did not fall off the face of the earth. I know because I hung out at his house for a while that evening. There was cake. Mmmmmmm...
Had band practice almost immediately after school Monday, then home to eat supper, then to the school for a senior meeting regarding GPA, rank and whatnot, and during which Katie, Becca Poe and myself wrote a story about a crock-pot, a ferret, and a blind cat. It was interesting. And I got yelled at for not turning in an essay and some scholarship-y stuff on time. But Mrs. Hicks didn't realize the date was past either, so it was no big deal. Besides, it was a guideline, not the absolute "turn-this-in-by-this-date-or-DIE!" deadline.
So I turned it in today and everyone is cool.
And I have no written homework, which is good, although my brain hurt a little after Mr. Scott's test. Ouch.
And the dogs don't look like dirty old Jamaicans anymore. I finally got to brush the little devils and get rid of those nappy patches of hair around their shoulders. And they almost killed each other, not like they usually almost kill each other, there was a little blood involved. Not much, but some. Ummmm. I'm done.

We love tha MOOOOOOOON!

Ahh, remember when you were a little kid and someone would bring animal crackers for snacktime and everyone would sit around trying to figure out what animal each shape was and then proceed to bite off parts of said cookie's anatomy and laugh?
I remember it like it was yesterday...
Oh, wait, that was yesterday! Silly me!
Except we also threw our animal crackers at the boys. Hehehe.
'K, you're getting freaked out now, right?
Dunnae be feart. There is an explanation.
We had cookies in Calculus and Sarah Newman didn't have time to actually make cookies, so she picked up a huge bag of animal crackers on her way to school. We saved them for lunch. So I was busy picking animal cracker out of my teeth for the first half of English. Very attractive.
And yes, Carmen sang the song accompanying the snack.
I go now. I must de-gross myself before my day of photograpy. Of other people, not myself.

Thursday, September 09, 2004

Never turn down free caffeine.

We interrupt my homework with an important message.
Ok, so it's not really important, but that doesn't really matter, now does it?
Interesting things happen when high school students get together. This we all know. For example, one of the stories Scott has a few of us working on for CyHigh is about our relationships with our lockers. Yep. We also "met the press" yesterday at the staff meeting. I dazzled them with my plans for studying architecture.
William and Jeremy have migrated to our end of the courtyard for lunch. If you were a guy, wouldn't you hang out at the table with all the girls? Yeah, that's what I thought.
My deplorable sleeping habits are creeping up on me again. Poo. This is especially bad when I have homework to finish. Eep.
I need pictures of people for an English project. Will try to get some this weekend. Remind me.
Well, one of my fingers is beginning to hurt, and I've still got plenty of typing to do on that project, so this is all for now.

Tuesday, September 07, 2004

I'm going to look at all your spoons.

I will never have kids. Never. You can't make me.
Why the unwillingness to procreate, you ask? Because I hate driving kids around, that's why. Friends are different. I like them. But siblings...no...and my parents are having me do parent-esque driving. Kinda like a soccer mom. Eww.
I spend no less than 45 minutes in my car per day driving someone somewhere. Which really puts a cramp in my style, if you know what I mean.
Right. Before having to put on my chauffer outfit, all was happy-go-jolly. Laughs in the courtyard during lunch, mostly due to the wind and its effect on...lunch, partial sabotage during economics, just an all-around okay day.
And I got to show Whit a nifty kitchen trick. It involved cake decorating. Also I saw some very unusual spoons that I must show Heather the next time we're both there. So yay. That was my day.

Monday, September 06, 2004

Today we wear...blue.

Hey, I did something yesterday! Called Drew after my afternoon nap and since we were both bored, crashing at Heather's house seemed like a good idea. So we did. For the most part we sat around and did nothing, interrupted by eating, watching Salad Fingers 2-4, and petting the cat/dogs. Eventually we got tired of doing that, so we went to the late viewing of Without a Paddle. Despite the fact that it looks stupid in the previews, it is actually a good movie with a few hilarious moments that could potentially cause ruptures in your abdominal muscles. It made us happy.
So yeah...
Finished my Beowulf assignment this morning. See? I didn't wait until tonight to finish it! Cookie for me! But now I must go finish my economics work. Which kinda sucks, but oh well. I'll have that out of the way should anyone want to hang out later.
Byebye.

Saturday, September 04, 2004

Umm, why did I come here?

Right. Post.
Practiced last night. For a group that's only re-formed about a week ago, we're shaping up, although our new pianist is having headaches over the way the music is written. This could be crippling.
The new associate music minister was moving stuff into the back rooms and wandered through a couple of times during rehearsal. At one point he asked why we weren't doing Sunday night services, but when we asked for a critique, he said we sounded "rough." Ok, which aspect was rough? We need to know what to work on, darn it! I mean, we've got until the 19th to get this up to speed!
After that I came home and tried to resume the nap that was interrupted when I had to leave for the Warehouse.
It was nice being able to crash in the clothes I'd been wearing all day.
Rolled out of bed sometime around 10 this morning. Painted a little, cleaned up my room a (very) little, unpacked groceries, nothing particularly exciting. Oh, and I picked up the books we'll be reading in English.
Why am I hanging around the house on the first day of a three-day weekend? I have no idea. I have no life, apparently.
On a happier note, I tried making toffee bars using Miki's mom's recipe, and they turned out quite well. *Mmmmmmm...*
I'll share some with a few people, but most of them are staying here for my personal consumption.
Hopefully I'll get out some while there is freedom to be had. But for now I'll be happy munching on sweets and listening to "Clocks."

Stop before your brain explodes

And oozes out your ears.
It is very dangerous to explore abstract concepts for too long. Really. One guy spent the last years of his life in an insane asylum after analyzing aspects of infinity.
So naturally, we talked about infinity in calculus. And had all our notions on the topic smashed into tiny little pieces and scattered all over the universe (which is infinite, or so we think).
But that's not a problem. We'll just pretend it never happened. After all, this is brainwashing day.
Miki is gone. *sigh*
A rare occurrence in chorus today. Free day. Woo!
It's weird, we haven't been yelled at, we've been complimented...who is this woman??
We've finally gotten (and gone through) all of the All West music. Interesting selection. Very interesting indeed.
As it is Friday, everyone was having a dreadful time staying awake during first and fourth block. The overcast weather didn't help either, I'll wager.
Oh yeah, senior class meeting! We filled out a survey for project graduation. Seems they've already earned over $2,000 toward it. Impressive.
I think I'll go take a nap or something. Bye bye.

He's flossing your keys

I'm starting an ant farm in my backpack...
Right. Had an arseload of homework last night, so that's what I did after practicing with some of the old band at Mark's house. We sound pretty good, to tell the truth. Less homework tonight. Whee! And the new format at the Warehouse starts tonight. Whee! So yeah...
I'll probably add some junk to the end of this when I come back home.
Later The USJ uniform story is finally up at CyHigh, along with the mugs and quotes I took for the RANT last week. The money flow that I believed had dried up at the beginning of the summer is starting back up again. I think it's a clever trick to keep me from getting a "real" job. But hey, when you're getting paid, you don't mind so much.
Drew's story is still floating around somewhere in the "post as needed" area of journalism world. I haven't a clue when that will make its way to the site. Doing two stories, a review, a rant, and tossing around ideas for the poll in the space of about a month has almost completely drained my writing creativity, at least for now. Hopefully it will find its way back before we begin our research papers in English. Oy.
Later, later Oh the adventures we have! Jessica locked Becca T.'s keys in her car, so I was like, Hey, my uncle's a locksmith, so we called him. Funny thing was that another one of her friends was about to call my other uncle, also a locksmith. Yeah, it's a small world. So he comes out to the Warehouse, does his locksmith-y magic, and voila! No more locked car. And also around this time Hunter and Danny were chasing Sam around with a metal bat. No, they didn't hurt him, just piled a few sandbags on him in the parking lot.
Yes, I have strange friends.
But I'm gonna go proofread and work on some non-school-related stuff before I go to bed.
Night night!

No, I lied...

So much for having no additional news to post.
I found out this morning that Becca Poe and Danny are no longer dating due to religious convictions. You know, God before boyfriend/girlfriend. Fortunately it wasn't a bad breakup.
On a somewhat happier note, Sarah went through the salad line ALL BY HERSELF today. Yes, she has gone her entire highschool career without purchasing lunch. So it was a new experience, and she is wiser for it.
Now I'm done...at least, I think so...

Where the giraffes are...and the ZEBRA!

Ringling Brothers is camped about a hundred feet away from my school. I'm seriously not kidding. Outside Oman Arena. Now, if you're not familiar with the geography of Madison/JCM, you have Madison, the former West Campus on the west (naturally), the Oman on the north side of the crosswalk, the vocational building farther southeast, and finally the East Campus and the Ag building to the east. And the trailers and motor homes are parked all over the parking lot surrounding Oman.
So yeah, I get to English and look out the window and I'm like, "Hey, it's the circus." How appropriate.
We finally got books in calculus and English. Psychology and sociology will have books tomorrow. I know because I carried them to the room from the bottom floor on the opposite side of the building.
Mr. Scott was in an unusually good mood, I guess because he got to show off his mathematical skills in class.
The shirt went over quite well, even the cafeteria lady that works the register asked where I'd gotten it.
I believe that's all the relevent information for today. Ta ta!

...It Could Be Raining...

Slowly age takes me. I think this has been happening slowly over the past year or two. When you leave your house with the intention of purchasing hygene products (i.e. toothpaste and deodorant) and begin to eat anything edible, you know you are becoming a "young adult." It's a pretty frightening thing. Tasty, but frightening.
So that's what I did today, not only because I needed to restock on toothpaste and deodorant, but also because I needed to break the twenty my dad had given me for food and other necessary expenses. Like my parking permit. Because the cafeteria doesn't like twentys, apparently.
But the day wasn't all mature. No, I showed Whit some of the Weebl cartoons, even the Frenchman (I warned her, but do you guys listen? Nooooo...). Oh, the joys of Kenya, Magical Trevor, and Salad Fingers!
Other than that, I napped, watched some of "When Harry Met Sally," and almost brought a stray dog home with me from church. Except he was gone when I was going to my car. I hope he goes somewhere where he can frolic like a happy, happy animal with floppy Basset-hound ears.
Well, it begins to grow late, not in my world, but in the world of "you have to go to school in the morning." So I will go iron and get ready for bed, so that I may enjoy the finer points of the Anglo-Saxons' impact on modern literature, tricky calculus, learning a tiny bit of Portuguese, and maybe something that has to do with economics. Whee.

"I shalln't play with you again until you've had a wash."

Oh, the joys of age. It appears I (and the rest of the people at my lunch table) have adopted a freshman. We shall pass on our upperclassman knowledge to her - like "don't eat meat shaped like a flower" and which teachers have odd quirks that can be exploited.
Mwahaha.
One day down, managed to receive no textbooks as there was a shortage in every class. My locker is somewhere in the vicinity of where Jimmy Warren kept some pancakes and syrup for no less than a few weeks. It was nasty, I tell you.
We had a massive "get to know your classmates" time in economics, which is good, I guess, considering that I met someone I didn't know at all and we actually got on quite amiably. So yay for not having books!
We began to calculate in calculus. Our lone junior decided that we don't bite and that it was safe to sit closer to the front of the class.
Hicks and Adrian Jones visited for a little while in chorus. Both are moving (moving back for Adrian) to college today. Also, I am Brooke Wagster's mentor for that class. I feel so old!
Anglo-Saxon studies in English. Oh, to learn about history in the British literature class!
And then it was time to party.
So I ran around the house all afternoon (except when I had to pick my sister up from cross country) getting ready to go to Whit's.
I got there after having a terrible time with traffic, only to be greeted by Miki and my birthday present. Yeah, my birthday's not until November, but she'll be gone then, so yeah. I loved it. :D I think I shall wear my new black "I went to Middle-Earth and all I got was this crummy ring" shirt Monday. It makes me happy.
We had a monster game night. Trampoline tricks that I can't do (and Drew taking out a chair...ouch), capture the flag, mafia, Taboo, and hide and go seek. You're never too old for hide and go seek.
Also fish-flavored nude soup. There is a long story that goes along with this, but I'll assume all the people that were there will remember it without me jotting it down here.
Late into the night we stayed up. Not as late as we might have, mind you, but fairly late-ish...most of us went to sleep after hearing the ghost a few times.
Sometime around 9 this morning, we woke up, had some coffee cake or doughnut holes, said goodbye to Miki (who should remember to e-mail us and whatnot), and packed our stinky selves in our cars to go home. I crashed again after I got here.
And I just woke up. Whee.
On a final note, Happy Birthday to Billy Boyd, who turns 36 today.

Perks

Well, to start off the year, the senior class had a little doughnut-and-orange-juice breakfast. At 6:30 a.m. Some of us were suspicious that it might be some horrible, horrible trick, but no, doughnuts. And then a massive group photo in front of the school. and then the informal yet essential senior procession into the auditorium (as the underclassmen looked on in awe).
Got our schedules. Mine didn't change any.
First block: economics and government with Tim Allen. No, not that Tim Allen, a different Tim Allen. One that teaches economics and government.
Second block: AP calculus I with Mr. Scott. He brought us a rock to look at. It was pretty. Should be an interesting class...
Third block: chorus. Helen was sober today, which is more than I can say for the last time I saw her.
Fourth block: English IV. Mrs. Hardin should make this an interesting class as well... So far she's quoted Chaucer and instructed us to take off our shoes and make our feet look pretty. *shrug*
Also I have received the first wave of necessary college-related paperwork. Yay.
Oh well, full day tomorrow. Must pick up some supplies. And what's better than a party at Whit's on a Friday night? Nothing. That's what! Unless it's a party at Whit's on an exam night. 'Cuz I've done that, too.

Greetings

It got lonely at LiveJournal, so here I am. Whee. Started senior year today. Again, whee. So...I guess this is the beginning of "Senior Year: Slightly Edited." Or something to that effect. So yeah. *waves to everyone* I guess I'll post little nuggets about whatever the heck I'm doing whenever something happens. But this is all for now. Byebye.
